Project Type: K–6 Elementary School

Focus: Durability, flexibility, and student-centered design

The Challenge: Furniture Planning During an Elementary School Rebuild

Bountiful Elementary in Utah was undergoing a complete rebuild. The existing school was being torn down and reconstructed, and during that time, the district still needed to accommodate teachers, staff, and students throughout the entire process. That created a unique challenge: how do you design long-lasting, student-friendly spaces that feel warm and welcoming while coordinating closely with architects and maintaining tight installation schedules?

The Vision: Softening the Space While Honoring the Architecture

The overall design concept for Bountiful Elementary was to bring the outside in and soften the environment. The architecture features strong angles throughout the building, so the design team sought ways to complement these forms while making the space feel approachable for young learners. One of the guiding ideas was to subtly accentuate the “B” in Bountiful through visual rhythm, shapes, and layout.

That theme shows up in:

• The layout of furniture using the Carolina Elara collection

• The repeating arches found throughout the school

• A softer interpretation of angular forms that still preserves a modern, clean look

The goal was to create an environment that felt both playful and sophisticated, welcoming for students while aligned with the building’s architectural intent.

The Solution: Flexible and Durable Elementary School Furniture

To support both durability and scale, the team selected a curated mix of products from OFS Brands, Encore, and Loll.

Durability

OFS and Carolina were the perfect partners because of their healthcare focus, which was important to meet the durability requirements of a high-traffic elementary school. These products were designed to hold up to years of heavy use while maintaining their appearance and comfort.

Scale and Flexibility

From a scale standpoint, GoGo Lounge chairs were selected to support students from kindergarten through sixth grade. These chairs include built-in handles, allowing students to easily grab and move them as needed.

This made them ideal for:

• Collaboration areas

• Flexible learning zones

• Informal seating spaces

Students can reconfigure their environment independently, which supports both autonomy and adaptable learning styles.

The Result: A Space That Works for “Tiny Humans” and Adults Alike

The final installation exceeded expectations. The client was thrilled with the outcome—from schematic design through final installation.

The furniture solutions supported both ends of the spectrum:

Student spaces scaled for young learners

Teacher break areas are designed for adult comfort and function

The finished environment feels cohesive, warm, modern, and highly functional across the entire school.

What Makes Good Elementary School Furniture?

Good elementary school furniture should be durable, flexible, age-appropriate, and designed to support collaborative learning. Schools often prioritize adaptable furniture solutions that can evolve with student needs while standing up to heavy daily use.

Creating Flexible Learning Spaces for Long-Term Student Success

Bountiful Elementary’s rebuild wasn’t just about new walls and new furniture. It was about creating a flexible, durable, student-centered environment that supports learning for years to come. It embraced Utah culture and the beautiful location.

By blending thoughtful design, durable product selection, and precise installation coordination, this project delivered a space that both students and educators can thrive in.
